Western Red Cedar Cladding
Cedar Shiplap, Weatherboards and Shingles
Cladding a facade, lining a feature wall, or shingling a gable? Western Red Cedar gives a building the warm red-brown tones and fine grain architects and builders choose it for. We stock cedar cladding in shiplap, V-joint, castellation and classic weatherboard profiles, from 84×9 lining up to 176×18 shiplap VJ, plus Red Label and Blue Label cedar shingles by the bundle.
Cedar Profiles for Walls and Ceilings
Choose the profile for the line you want on the wall. Shiplap gives clean horizontal lines, in 84×9 and 133×9 for lighter lining work and 127×18 and 130×18 for full cladding. V-joint adds a groove at each board, in 127×18 and the 176×18 shiplap VJ for a wider face. Castellation cladding in 78×18 and 78×26 creates a stepped, three-dimensional pattern for feature walls and facades, and the 170mm cover classic weatherboard suits traditional external walls.
Red Label and Blue Label Cedar Shingles
Western Red Cedar shingles are used on gables, feature walls and roofs for a textured, natural finish. We stock both Red Label and Blue Label, each bundle covering 2.33m². Blue Label is the higher grade for a cleaner, more uniform face, while Red Label is the more economical option where some natural character is welcome.
Why Western Red Cedar
Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) is a lightweight softwood known for its natural resistance to moisture, rot and insects, and for machining and working easily on site. It can be left to weather to a silver-grey, or oiled or stained to hold its red-brown colour. Fix it with our timber screws, compare the pre-primed Design Pine H3 cladding for painted walls, or see the full timber cladding range.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Western Red Cedar good for external cladding?
Yes. Western Red Cedar is known for its natural resistance to moisture, rot and insects, and is one of the most popular timbers for external cladding and facades in Australia.
What is the difference between Red Label and Blue Label cedar shingles?
Blue Label is the higher grade with a cleaner, more uniform face. Red Label is the more economical grade with more natural character. BBS stocks both, with each bundle covering 2.33m².
What is castellation cladding?
Castellation cladding is a profile with raised and recessed sections that creates a stepped, three-dimensional pattern on the wall. BBS stocks it in Western Red Cedar at 78×18 and 78×26.
Does cedar cladding need to be sealed?
Western Red Cedar can be left untreated to weather to a silver-grey. To keep its red-brown colour, it is oiled or stained and recoated as the finish wears.
What sizes does cedar shiplap cladding come in?
BBS stocks cedar shiplap in 84×9, 133×9, 127×18, 130×18 and a 176×18 shiplap VJ, plus 127×18 V-joint and 170mm cover classic weatherboard.
