Timber Door Jambs
Internal and External Door Jambs, Single and Double Rebate
Hanging new doors, replacing a damaged frame, or fitting out a whole house? Our timber door jambs cover internal and external openings in four ranges: Pine F/J white primed, Design Pine H3, solid Maple Meranti, and Maple F/J. Choose single or double rebate, as individual jambs or complete door jamb sets, in widths from 90×30 for standard stud walls up to 185×42 for thicker walls and heavier doors.
Choosing the Right Jamb for the Opening
Start with where the door sits. For internal doors that will be painted, Pine F/J white primed jambs arrive ready for a topcoat. For external doors and openings exposed to weather, Design Pine H3 jambs are pre-primed and treated for above-ground exterior use. Where the frame will be stained or left with a natural timber finish, solid Maple Meranti gives a stable hardwood jamb, with Maple F/J as the finger jointed option.
Door Jamb Sizes and Rebates
Match the jamb width to the wall thickness and the thickness to the door. 30mm jambs suit standard internal doors, while 42mm jambs are used for heavier and external doors. A single rebate jamb has one stop for a door closing from one side, and a double rebate jamb has a stop on each side, used for doors hung on both faces of the opening or thicker wall build-ups. Buy single lengths for a repair, or full jamb sets where you are framing new openings.
What Goes With It
Finish the opening with the door that hangs in it from our internal and external doors range, and trim it with matching architraves from our skirting and mouldings. Browse the full timber range for the rest of the fit-out.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a door jamb?
A door jamb is the timber frame lining a doorway. The door is hinged off one side and closes against the rebate on the other, so the jamb keeps the door hanging square.
What size door jamb do I need?
Match the jamb width to your wall thickness and the jamb thickness to the door. BBS stocks jambs from 90×30 for standard stud walls up to 185×42 for thicker walls and heavier doors.
What is a double rebate door jamb?
A double rebate jamb has a stop on both sides, used where doors are hung on each face of the opening or the wall is thicker. A single rebate jamb has one stop for a door closing from one side.
What door jamb should I use for an external door?
For external doors, use a jamb suited to weather exposure, such as Design Pine H3, which is pre-primed and treated for above-ground exterior use.
Do you sell door jamb sets?
Yes. BBS stocks door jambs as individual lengths and as complete jamb sets for framing new openings.
