Timber Cladding/Lining

Internal and External Timber Wall Cladding

Cladding a new facade, lining a feature wall, or matching boards on a renovation? Our timber cladding and lining range covers both sides of the wall, from external weatherboards and shiplap to internal VJ lining boards and panelling. Choose Western Red Cedar, Cypress Pine, Design Pine H3 primed pine, internal pine, hardwood lining, Easycraft and Surround by Laminex, in profiles including shiplap, V-joint, weatherboard, castellation, chamfer, tongue and groove, and cedar shingles.

External Cladding: Cedar, Cypress and Treated Pine

For outside walls, pick the timber for the finish you want and the exposure it faces. Western Red Cedar gives warm, natural red-brown tones in weatherboard, shiplap, castellation and shingle profiles, a common choice for architectural facades. Cypress Pine suits a rustic log cabin weatherboard look. Design Pine H3 comes pre-primed and treated for above-ground exterior use, in rusticated and chamfer weatherboards, VJ shiplap and tongue and groove, ready for a topcoat once it is up.

Internal Lining: VJ, Shiplap and Panelling

Inside, timber lining boards are used for feature walls, ceilings, wainscoting and full-room wraps. Pine lining boards come raw for staining or white primed for painting, in #302 Vee Joint and #321 Regency profiles. Easycraft and Surround by Laminex add ready-to-install panel profiles such as VJ, batten, scallop and heritage styles for a coastal, Hamptons or contemporary look. Hardwood lining is there where you want a natural hardwood face on the wall. Finish the job with matching skirting boards and mouldings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best timber for external cladding?

Western Red Cedar is a popular choice for its natural look, while Design Pine H3 is pre-primed and treated for above-ground exterior use and ready to paint. Cypress Pine suits a rustic weatherboard finish. The right pick depends on the look, finish and budget.

What is the difference between cladding and lining boards?

Cladding is fixed to the outside of a building as the external wall finish. Lining boards are used on internal walls and ceilings for a decorative timber face.

What is shiplap cladding?

Shiplap is a profile where each board overlaps the next with a rebated edge, giving a clean horizontal line. BBS stocks shiplap in Western Red Cedar and Design Pine H3.

What are VJ lining boards?

VJ (Vee Joint) boards have a V-shaped groove where the boards meet, a classic look for walls and ceilings. BBS stocks VJ in pine lining, Design Pine H3, cedar, Easycraft and Surround by Laminex.

Can timber cladding be painted?

Yes. Primed pine and Design Pine H3 are ready for a topcoat. Raw pine and cedar can be stained, oiled or painted to suit the finish you want.
