Structural Plywood
Composition
According to the Australian Standard for structural plywood (AS 2269), only Type A-bond is permitted in its manufacture. The boards are produced from phenol formaldehyde resin, which creates a glue bond that won’t weaken even when the sheets are exposed to wet conditions, temperature changes and various other potential hazards. There are eight standard stress grades for structural plywood, with each grade being appropriate for certain applications.
General Benefits of Structural Plywood
Whatever the stress grade, structural plywood offers several benefits. First of all, structural plywood is chemical-, corrosion- and damage-resistant. It’s also impervious to weather conditions, such as heat, cold and humidity. It has twice the shear carrying capacity when compared to timber, and it is exceptionally strong in terms of its stiffness to weight ratio. Moreover, it provides a high degree of dimensional stability since it can withstand plenty of moisture.
Applications for Structural Plywood
As an exceptionally strong and stiff material, structural plywood is a safe and reliable choice for commercial and industrial building projects. Structural plywood is an especially wise material choice when there are high load capacity criteria you need to meet, as it can easily satisfy such building requirements. It also conforms to building code fire, durability, energy efficiency and moisture standards. It can be used as interior and exterior cladding and as a material for ceilings, walls and floors. It is also popularly used in making pallets, crates, boxes, storage decks, truck bodies and floors, cabinetry and displays, hoardings, beams and outdoor furniture.
