Strength & Durability
Marine-grade or simply marine plywood is considered one of the toughest, most durable types of wood.
Made with selected timbers like Hoop Pine and manufactured to FSC/PEFC certification standards, it is bonded using a permanent Type A phenolic bond. This helps the sheets of wood veneer or plies that are stacked perpendicularly to stay firmly together. The plywood is subjected to heat and high pressure during the bonding process, which ultimately give it the strong finish it is known for. This protects marine plywood from wood borers and marine organisms, as well as water, fungus and moisture.
Primary Uses of Marine Plywood
The best-quality marine plywood is free from any defects, lightweight and durable. Aside from being a highly popular material for the production of boat parts and building entire boats and docks, it is also used in making outdoor furniture, decks, patios and porches, particularly for high-humidity settings such as coastal areas. Its being water-, fungus- and moisture-resistant also makes it ideal for bathroom and kitchen projects. You can use it as a bathroom flooring, siding or backsplash material. For kitchens, it works well as shelving and flooring material.
Commercial & Industrial Applications
Unlike other types of wood, marine plywood is fabricated in such a way that it does not contain any gaps or voids between the plies, so it remains sturdy, even after sawing. Even when subjected to heat, it won’t show any signs of delamination or veneer separation. This is why marine plywood is also used in heat exchangers, cooling towers, public hoardings, signboards, and portable cabins and shelters exposed to severe weather conditions.
